How I Went From Health Informatics to Digital Products — And Why You Can Too

For years, I worked in the healthcare space, deep in systems, workflows, and patient data — the world of health informatics. I loved the mission, but I always felt something was missing: creative freedom, flexibility, and the ability to help people my way.

I never imagined that one day I’d be creating digital products, working with everyday experts, and teaching others how to turn their knowledge into income online. But here I am — and if you’ve ever thought “I’d love to do something like that,” this post is for you.

🎯 Why I Made the Shift

Like many women, I wore a lot of hats:
✅ Professional
✅ Caregiver
✅ Mother
✅ Lifelong learner

And like many women, I found myself asking:

  • Can I do something more flexible?

  • Is there a way to use what I know and still be present for my family?

  • What if I could help people AND build something of my own?

That’s when I started exploring digital products — and everything changed.

💻 What I Knew That Helped Me Start

Even though I didn’t have a business degree or a huge following, I did have:

  • An understanding of systems and structure (thank you, informatics!)

  • Experience teaching others and breaking down complex info

  • A passion for helping people make better decisions with knowledge

  • A deep respect for ethical, value-based communication

Those skills didn’t just transfer — they became my superpowers.

🧩 What I Created First

My first digital product wasn’t perfect — but it was real.
It was something simple: a downloadable resource for people like me who were overwhelmed and unsure where to start.

From there, I built:

  • Mini guides for new digital creators

  • Templates to simplify online business

  • Workshops and strategy calls to help others get unstuck

All of it came from what I’d already lived and learned.

🚫 What I Thought I Needed (But Didn’t)

Let me save you some time. You do not need:

  • A fancy website

  • A huge social media following

  • To quit your job or make a huge leap

  • A tech background or MBA

  • To be “the best” in your field

You need:

  • A willingness to start messy

  • A story someone else needs

  • Support that keeps you moving

🌟 Why I Started The Digital Carepreneur

As I built my own digital business, I realized so many people around me had valuable expertise — but no clue where to begin.

Especially:

  • Moms who’ve mastered routines and systems

  • Caregivers who’ve navigated complicated journeys

  • Healthcare workers with decades of people-focused knowledge

  • Teachers, creatives, and changemakers with lived experience

So I built The Digital Carepreneur — a space for people like you to learn, grow, and earn without burning out.

✅ If You’re Thinking About Starting…

Here’s what I want you to know:

  • Your experience is valuable

  • You don’t need to do it all today

  • You are capable, even if it feels scary

  • The tech can be simple

  • The marketing can feel ethical

  • And you are not alone

💬 Final Thoughts

If you’ve lived it, learned it, or helped someone through it — you can teach it.
If I can go from health informatics to digital entrepreneurship, so can you.

Here’s your invitation to start where you are, use what you know, and build something that works for your life.
